Learn more about <a href="https://international.illinois.edu/">Illinois International</a>.</p><p><br><h4>Job Summary</h4>Provide advising support to international students on matters related to immigration and visa regulations, and acclimation to the university and community environments. The position places a special emphasis on expertise in immigration advising, related University policies and procedures, and production and knowledge of USCIS and DHS forms. <h4 id="duties--responsibilities">Statement of Duties &amp; Responsibilities:</h4><ul><li>Advise students on immigration and visa regulations, university procedures and travel procedures related to academics and University employment.</li><li>Facilitate and process immigration document requests from students by serving as Designated School Official (DSO) for the University of Illinois’ F-1/F-2 program, and/or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the University of Illinois’ J-1/J-2 program.</li><li>Process the results of data extractions from the University database, ISSS database, and Homeland Security’s SEVIS system. Identify students requiring specialized follow-up in order to maintain valid immigration status through course registration, departmental reporting, or other university related procedures to comply with federally mandated reporting requirements.</li><li>Organize or assist with federally mandated new student check in and/or airport transportation and/or orientation as part of the new international student experience, including the possible supervision of student employees.</li></ul> <p>&nbsp;</p><p><span style="text-decoration: underline"><strong>Required Qualifications:</strong></span></p><ul><li>Bachelor’s Degree</li><li>A total of one (1) year in education, training and/or work experience within international student affairs, or cultural experience while studying or working internationally.</li><li>Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to fulfill DSO and/or ARO duties.</li></ul><h4 id="knowledge-skills-and-abilities"><span style="text-decoration: underline">Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):</span></h4><ul><li>Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.</li><li>Meticulous attention to detail.</li><li>Ability to work effectively with individuals from varied administrative, academic, cultural, religious, national, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.</li></ul></p><h4 id="campus-and-community">CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY:</h4><p>The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is a comprehensive and major public land-grant university (Doctoral/Research University-Extensive) that is ranked among the best in the world. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date.&nbsp;The budgeted annual salary for this position is $48,500.</p><p><strong>Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.</strong></p><p>Civil Service employees may earn up to 28 days of vacation leave per year, depending on length of service. The University offers <a href="https://www.hr.uillinois.edu/leave/holidays">11 annual paid holidays</a>, 12 cumulative sick leave days, plus an additional 13 non-cumulative sick leave days, if needed, each year.
