Sequoias Community College District is seeking a qualified and equity-minded candidate to fill a full-time, temporary one year position in the ART Department beginning August 2026.
Assignments may include evening classes and teaching at any of the Sequoias Community College District Campuses: Visalia, Hanford and/or Tulare. Participation in the governance of the Sequoias Community College District by way of committee assignments is encouraged.
College of the Sequoias offers lecture-lab pay parity, as well as overload and large lecture compensation that may be additional.

ABOUT THE ART DEPAERTMENT:
The Art history program includes art appreciation, art history, and gallery management classes. The Art program offers a comprehensive foundation in the history, theory, and practice of Art to students pursuing a degree, a certificate, or seeking to transfer to a four-year degree program.
Job Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching both in person and online courses in Art History, including:
- ARTH C1100 Survey of Art Prehistory to Medieval Era
- ARTH C1200 Survey of Art from Renaissance to Contemporary
- ARTH 004 Art of Ancient America: Mesoamerica
- ARTH 005 Art of Ancient America: South America
- ARTH 001 Art Appreciation
This position will require the collection and input of Student Learning Outcome data for the art history courses into our program review management software. Other responsibilities include maintenance of office hours, active engagement with campus culture, participation in departmental responsibilities, willingness to create, participate and sustain an atmosphere of equity, which is respectful of diversity District wide
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate must meet the following criteria.
- Master's in art history, history of art and architecture or visual culture/visual studies OR
- Bachelor's in art history and master's in history OR
- Master's in art with a recorded emphasis or concentration in art history OR
- The equivalent
JOB REQUIRED CORE SYSTEM COMPETENCY
The candidate must also demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students pursuant to Title 5 53022.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
The Art Department is looking for evidence of the following:
- MA in Art History.
- Evidence of prior online teaching in Art History.
- Online Teaching Certification that is from 2023 or newer, and/or willingness to complete a COS online teaching certification training.
- Teaching experience at the adult, secondary and/or postsecondary level in Art History/Appreciation, and/or related art courses.
- Ability to teach the four Art History Courses in the department.
- Commitment to mentoring students.
- Experience supporting student retention, persistence, and completion, particularly for first-generation and underrepresented students.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage students effectively.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in interdisciplinary contexts and participate in departmental initiatives.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with developments in art history and pedagogy.

Note: Applicants who have completed college or university course work at an institution outside of the United States that is not a post-secondary institution accredited by an accreditation agency recognized by either the US Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) must obtain a complete evaluation of foreign transcripts, degrees, and other relevant documents by either NACES or AICE.

Timeline: Application review will begin after the closing date. Interviews are held in person on the Visalia, CA campus. First-level interviews will take place on June 29, 2026, and second-level interviews on June 30, 2026.
If selected for second interviews, there is a $500 travel assistance stipend offered for out-of-state applicants, and $200 for in-state applicants if traveling over 100 miles.
